The Champions of Character Program is grounded in five core values including respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership and sportsmanship. The objective is to intentionally teach character in sport to coaches, athletes, parents and fans.

Change to 2008 Football Schedule Announced (7-16-08)

Georgetown College Tiger Athletics announced a change to the 2008 football schedule with the cancellation of the Heritage Classic Bowl originally scheduled for September 20, 2008.

Director of Athletics Eric Ward explained that the cancellation was due to a scheduling conflict. “Although it is disappointing for our team and fans we are optimistic that there may be another opportunity for us to participate in the bowl in the future.”

Head Coach Bill Cronin said the Tigers will leave the game date open and that he has no plans to add another opponent. Georgetown opens the season at home on September 6 versus McKendree University. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at Toyota Stadium.

Bengals Extend Contract with Georgetown College (6-19-08)

Georgetown, KY — The Bengals and Georgetown (Ky.) College have agreed on a one-year extension of the team’s contract to hold training camp at the college’s East Campus Athletic Complex. The agreement now runs through 2009.

“We’re happy to announce an agreement to extend our relationship with Georgetown College,” said Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis. “We like the traditional setup of conducting training camp away from our in-season facility, and, really, the setup at Georgetown’s athletic complex is perfect for all of our camp needs. “Additionally, we can’t say enough good things about the college’s staff members who run camp for us. Not only can they do just about anything we would ever need them to, but they also make us feel very much at home.”

The Bengals have held training camp in Georgetown since 1997. Players and coaches will report to this year’s camp on July 27, with the team’s first practice scheduled on July 28. The Training Camp is located at Georgetown’s East Campus Athletic Complex, which includes housing, a conference center with meeting rooms and banquet facilities, practice fields and Toyota Stadium, with an estimated capacity of 10,000 people.

“Our relationship with the Cincinnati Bengals organization continues to be a very positive thing for the college, and we’re glad they’re confident enough in us to extend the agreement for another year,” said Eric Ward, Georgetown College athletic director. “We have a great working relationship with the Bengals’ staff and coaches and know what they expect from us when they arrive for camp.”

Ward again anticipates big crowds for practices and scrimmages and explained that while admission is free, there is a charge for on-site parking. The close proximity to Cincinnati allows for fans to have access to the players and coaches in a unique setting.

Former Tiger Inducted into Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame (6-18-08)

Georgetown College's most successful professional athlete, Bruce McNorton, was inducted into the Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame on Friday, June 13 at an annual awards dinner held in Nicholasville, Ky.

The 2008 class marked the sixth group inducted and also included Tim Couch, Mark Higgs, Howard Schnellenberger and Ted Washington. McNorton is the first Tiger to be honored as a part of the Hall of Fame. He was inducted into the Georgetown College Athletics Hall of Fame in 2000 after a lengthy career in the National Football League.

In 1982, the Tiger cornerback was the 96th overall pick when he was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the fourth round in the NFL Draft. He established himself as one of the best defensive backs to play for the Lions and was a part of the 1983 Lions team that won the division title. In the same year, he was tied for first in interceptions in the NFL with seven.

During his years at Georgetown from 1979-1982, McNorton was one of the top kickoff returners in the nation with a 40.6 yard average return and set the school record with 24 career interceptions - a record that still stands. He participated in the Senior Bowl in 1981.
