Tigers Lose to Campbellsville in MSC Semi-Final (3-7-09)
FRANKFORT,
Ky.
-- Georgetown College finished the 2008-09
campaign with a 63-44 loss to Campbellsville in the Mid-South Conference
semi-finals on Saturday.
Both teams started sluggish, with Georgetown shooting just
26.1 percent in the first half compared to Campbellsville's 34.3. But
Campbellsville turned it on at the end of the period and outscored the
Tigers 12 to 5 to take a 30-15 lead at halftime.
Campbellsville's Whitney Ballinger's double-double of 15
points and ten rebounds moved her team into Sunday's finals against
co-regular season champs Cumberlands.
For Georgetown, last year's conference tournament winner,
it was a frustrating end of the collegiate careers of four seniors, Ashley
Bell, Katie Filiatreau, Makaine Huffer and Maddy Lewis, who together
combined for an overall record of 83-46 in four years together.
Down 30 with 11 minutes left, the Tigers gave a comeback
effort to cut it to 15 led by Bell, who scored all 11 of her points in the
last nine minutes of the game.
Campbellsville improved to 26-5 on the year, while
Georgetown ends the season 17-15.

Tigers Advance in the Mid-South Conference Tournament (3-6-09)

FRANKFORT,
Ky.
-- Georgetown College advanced to the Mid-South
Conference Tournament semi-finals with a 76-65 win over Pikeville on Friday.
Next up for the fifth-seeded Tigers is top-seed Campbellsville on Saturday
at 3:00 p.m.
Pikeville (20-11), seeded fourth in the six-team
tournament, led 24-18 after freshman Megan Mosley tossed in a three-point
shot with 8:43 remaining in the first half.
But from there Georgetown took over, turning a six-point
deficit into a nine-point lead. Sophomore Ashley Prince scored seven of her
nine points in the 6:42 stretch, which ended when Makaine Huffer nailed a
three with 2:01 left. Huffer had five of her nine points in the run.
Neither team shot well in the game, with Georgetown
hitting 40 percent of its shots and Pikeville sinking only 33.3 percent. The
teams combined to turn it over 44 times, with Pikeville giving it up 23
times.
Georgetown, 17-14, had only one player in double figures.
Senior Ashley Bell finished with 12 to go with five rebounds and three
steals. Huffer, Prince, Maddy Lewis and Katie Filiatreau followed with nine
points apiece, and eight Tigers had at least seven points in the win.
Huffer led Georgetown's effort on the glass with six
rebounds, as all five starters had at least four rebounds.
Pikeville was led by sophomore Natiera Hinton, as the
league's leading scorer finished with 19 points and nine rebounds to go with
five steals. Sophomore Lakia Bailey joined her in double digits with 14 and
pulled down seven rebounds.
Senior Kristal Daniels had eight points and a game-high 12
rebounds as Pikeville won that battle 44-34.

Tiger in January and currently ranks 12th in career points with this post
season and her senior season left to move up in the history books.
Lindsey
Wilson College sophomore center Viktoria Krell was named the Player of the

conference coaches. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players.

within the campus and community. In addition, she was honored as a
academic all-conference selection and was the only basketball
student-athlete to receive the honor with a 4.0 cumulative grade point
average. Teammates Ashley Bell and Emily Drees also received academic
all-conference awards.
