Mahorn joins Tiger men's basketball staff (6/4/10)

Current Lafayette High School assistant coach Andre Mahorn has been tabbed as the new assistant at Georgetown College. Mahorn, like K.C. Goodin – who he is replacing, knows exactly what it means to be a part of the Tiger nation.

“To know Georgetown and recruit for Georgetown, you must understand how special Georgetown is, you have to be a part of it,” Osborne said. “I have a lot of respect for coach (Mike) Krzyzewski and how he runs his program at Duke. Even though we are on different levels, I think our schools have many similarities in that they are both excellent academically, have a lot of tradition, and the students that attend have tremendous pride in their institution. Because of that, Coach K hires his players. Andre Mahorn understands Georgetown, how special it is here. We are not just NAIA; we are Georgetown. There is a difference.”

Mahorn, a forward, helped Georgetown to a final four appearance in 2002-03.

“Having played here and knowing the success that it brings to college basketball, not just the NAIA but basketball period, I just thought it was a great place to be a part of history,” Mahorn said. “I think it is a great opportunity. Coach really gave me a chance both times, as a player and now as a coach, and I’m joining one of the best staffs in the state of Kentucky. This is a great opportunity for me to grow.”

Osborne is excited about what he will bring to the table in helping the post position, and this was not the first time Mahorn made the short list for a Tiger coaching position.

“When I hired Chris Briggs in 2007, I strongly considered Andre,” Osborne said. “I think in the end it has worked out perfect. I think Chris and Andre will be a great team.”

Mahorn’s most recent experience with the Generals, along with his time under Osborne as a player, are two components Osborne sees as beneficial on the recruiting trail.

“Andre has been where our players are walking,” the veteran coach said. “He’s worked hard to graduate. He’s played overseas. He is also tremendously passionate about what he believes in. He is a strong Christian and has the characteristic that I would like our players to emulate.”

Osborne acknowledges Mahorn was not one of the more talented players to come through Georgetown, but his work ethic and passion made the Tigers winners. It is those same characteristics that have received praise from Lafayette’s head coach Greg Coldiron.

“I have nothing but good things to say about him,” Coldiron said. “He has been my right hand man for the past three years. We are good friends and he’s a great basketball person – very sincere heart to help young players.”

Coldiron sees player development and recruiting as two of Mahorn’s strengths. He said he is solid on the court with basketball knowledge and builds relationships with the players off the court as well.

“I know this (coaching at the college level) is something he has had in the back of his mind probably since he graduated from Georgetown,” Coldiron said. “He will be greatly missed, but this is a great opportunity for him and a great situation for him and his family.”

Mahorn, nephew of Detroit Piston Rick Mahorn, is originally from East Orange New Jersey, but his wife, Traci, and two kids, Kamya and Makhi, currently reside in Lexington.

Goodin head coach at Doss (6/1/10)

K.C. Goodin hopes to take what he has learned as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Georgetown College and help revive the boys’ program at Doss High School next season.
The former Tiger who helped to win a national championship in 1998, will be taking over as head coach of the Dragons. The Louisville school went 4-23 a season ago, but Goodin is no stranger to turning a program around.

Before returning to GC as an assistant for Happy Osborne, he was head coach for one season at Louisville Western. He took the Trojans from a 5-19 team in 2004-05 to a 15-15 finish in 2005-06. He then joined Happy Osborne on the sidelines – a time he will not soon forget.

“The experience I’ve had here is second to none,” Goodin said. “I cannot express my appreciation to Happy and the staff here at Georgetown enough. It was a true blessing to be able to return to the school where I had so much collegiate success and learn under my coach.”

Following the 1998-99 season, where the Tigers made it to the Sweet 16, Goodin received a job with Louisville Western as an assistant. He left Georgetown and finished his degree at Kentucky State University.

“I’m very excited about the opportunity in front of me, and while it is hard to leave Georgetown, it is the right move for me and my family at this time,” Goodin said, who will not only be coaching, but also be teaching physical education at Doss.

During his four seasons on the sidelines, the Tigers were 117-17 with a final four appearance in the NAIA National tournament in 2008.

“We will surely miss K.C. Without question he has given all he has to our program. As an individual, I enjoyed coaching with him as much as anybody I’ve coached with in my life,” Osborne said. “He has been a combination father, big brother, and best friend to our players. He has such a bright future, and I know he will be successful. One of the things I enjoyed most about K.C. was having his sons around our program, and I will miss Aaron, Kenyon, and Kade.”

Men's basketball signs Morris (5/19/10)

Aaron Morris signs with Georgetown College men’s basketball team. The 2008 Mr. Basketball candidate from Madison Central looked seriously at Georgetown when he graduated before picking Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis.

After spending some time there, he most recently played at North Dakota State College of Science. With two years left of eligibility, Morris, seated in the middle with GC coach Happy Osborne on his right and his father Marlon is on his left, is now a Tiger.

Also pictured are MCHS assistant Kenny Roberts, head coach Allen Feldhaus, and assistant Brandon Fritz.

“We recognized Aaron as a player we wanted back in high school. Our goal is to get as many Kentucky kids that can help us,” GC coach Happy Osborne said. “We finished second on him out of high school and we are excited to get him now. He has several friends on the team and he’s proven to be strong academically.”

The 6-foot-6 forward averaged a team high 15.4 points per game and was second on the team with 6.7 rebounds per game this past season at NDSCS. The Wildcats were 23-9 and lost in the Region XIII championship to Williston.

At MCHS, Morris was averaging 22 ppg and 11 rpg his senior season and is still the Indians all-time leading scorer with 1,980. In his four years, he helped Madison Central to one regional title and an elite eight appearance in the Sweet 16. The Indians worst finish during Morris’ years was the quarterfinals of the 11th Region tournament.

“We are always excited about players that played under coach Allen Feldhaus,” Osborne said. “We know they can be pushed and are solid fundamentally. And Aaron has the tenacity and athleticism we look for at Georgetown.”

Tigers lose in first round (3/17/10)

Vic Moses led with 23 points and senior Hollis Giles chipped in with 13, but it was not enough for Georgetown College in the first round of the Buffalo Funds Men’s Basketball NAIA tournament in Kansas City.

Park University out of Missouri and just in the backyard of the Municipal Auditorium had the home crowd behind it as it pulled off the upset of the No. 11 Tigers (26-7). The Pirates (23-9) used a 51-35 second half to erase an eight-point halftime deficit. PU moves on with an 83-75 win.

For the third time in the past four seasons, GC goes home after one game.

“We panicked and I take the blame for that,” GC coach Happy Osborne said. “These guys accomplished a lot and worked their butt off. They are my kids and I love them. We will be back and we will win here again.”

Giles got things going early for the Tigers helping to erase an early seven-point deficit and eventually take a 13-point lead, 31-18. The senior had 11 of his points in the first half.

PU stormed out of the locker room on a 12-4 run to tie things up 44-44. Matt Walls and Vincent Crutcher had back-to-back baskets to stop the bleeding for GC, but an 8-0 run gave the Pirates a 52-48 lead and would never again trail. Walls tied the game at 54 with 10:20 remaining for the final tie of the game.

Crutcher finished with 11 to round out the double-digit scorers for Georgetown.

Tigers learn their fate (3/10/10)

Georgetown College men's basketball team already knew it was going to make a record 19th straight Buffalo Funds-NAIA Division I Men's Basketball National Championship Appearance.

What the Tigers (26-6) didn't know was when they would play and who they would face. The mystery was cleared up Wednesday afternoon as GC was paired against Park University (22-9). As the 11th seed in the tournament, the Tigers will tip off 6:15 p.m. Wednesday night.

It is not only a record 19th straight appearance, but 29th overall. Georgetown is 49-27 in the tournament, tying Oklahoma Baptist for the most wins. Oddly enough those two teams are in the same eight-team bracket and could face each other in the quarterfinals.

Park is led by Herschel Rodgers, 15 points per game and 7.2 rebounds per game, while Terrell Dyer also adds 10.9 ppg. The Pirates have one like opponent with GC. They beat Evangel University, 75-73, in overtime on Nov. 14. Six days later the Crusaders came to Georgetown and left with an 81-67 defeat.

GC is led by senior Hollis Giles and sophomore Vic Moses, both average 17.4 ppg.

Tigers enjoy Senior Night (2/25/10)

Georgetown celebrated Senior Night in style as it avenged another loss to a Mid-South Conference foe. St. Catharine pulled off a 92-87 overtime win earlier this season. But would not be so fortunate in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym.

Following an ceremony for six Tiger seniors, GC proceeded to open up a nine-point advantage after the first 20 minutes. The win runs GC's record to 22-6 overall and 10-3 in MSC.

And it was more of the same in the second half as the Tigers cruised to a 84-64 win in their final home game of the year. Now the Tigers hit the road to wrap up the regular season at Rio Grande Saturday.

It was a sophomore tandem leading the charge as Vic Moses scored 21 points and Johonne Hamilton added 18. Senior Hollis Giles also reached double figures with 16 points. Each senior scored at least once as Jamel Ferguson finished with two points and Kyle Saxton five.

Michael Pollio, Ari Briggs and Bret Saxton were also honored on senior night.

The Tigers led by 20 at the 13 minute mark, 62-42, but let Pikeville back in the game after a Bear’s 9-0 run.

Tigers Win; Osborne Reaches No. 400 (11/12/09)

Georgetown, Ky. - Georgetown College Coach Happy Osborne recorded his 400th career win in a 91-57 victory over Ohio Dominican on Thursday.

Osborne, just two games into his 14th season at Georgetown, now owns an overall record of 400-72 and attributes the milestone to each student-athlete who have been a part of his storied program.

"This isn't about me at all," said the coach with a winning percentage of 84.8, better than any other coach in the 107 year history. "This is a special place because of the people."

Osborne's squad avenged last year's loss to the Panthers, who ended the Tigers' winning streak of 51 straight regular season wins, by a bucket in Columbus last November, 82-80.

Despite being down early in the first half 14-4, the Tigers went on a 7-0 run to get themselves back in the game and gain their first lead of the night at 17-16 but ended the half down one, 32-31.

Georgetown improved their shooting percentage from 32.4 in the first half to 63.2 in the second, including 8-of-12 from the three-point arc, where junior Matt Walls finished 4-of-5.  The Tigers were led by sophomore Vic Moses with 27 points and nine rebounds, while Adriene Rodriguez paced the visitors, who fell to 0-2, with 11.

Before tipoff, Georgetown presented the family of Stephen Elrod with a framed jersey.  Elrod, a four year letterman and 2007 graduate, was killed in a tragic vehicle accident in July.

Georgetown Finishes NCAA Matchups with 73-61 Loss at FSU (11/9/09)

Tallahassee, Fla. – The Georgetown College Tigers kept the Seminoles of Florida State on their toes, losing 73-61 in both squad's last exhibition game of the year.

The Tigers led by six three different times in the first half including an 11-0 run midway through the period.

"I thought we fought well and that our kids gave in their all," said head coach Happy Osborne. "Eddie Gray took care of the ball and really paced the game."

Gray led all scorers with 19 while Moses paced the Tigers in rebounds with six. FSU had three players in double digits, Derwin Kitchen (18), Xavier Gibson (13) and a double-double from Solomon Alabi, 13 points and 12 boards.

Osborne knows the three NCAA Division I games, Louisville, Mississippi State and the finale in Tallahassee, will serve as good preparation for a tough schedule.

"You walk out of here and you know who was in the fox hole with you.  This builds us, brings us closer as a team and maybe we can get a hold of Bruce Pearl on the way home and see what Tennessee is doing on Wednesday."

Tigers Hang Tough at Mississippi State (11/8/09)

Starkville, Miss. – Junior forward Kodi Augustus scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to pace the 18th-ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs to a 90-70 defeat of the visiting Georgetown College Tigers Saturday afternoon at Humphrey Coliseum.

Augustus connected on 6-of-9 shots from the floor and all three of his free throws. All-SEC senior Jarvis Varnado fell just short of the team’s second double-double with a team-high 17 points, 9 rebounds and 5 blocks.

Pacing the game in scoring was Georgetown College guard Eddie Gray, who put up 19 points and claimed 5 rebounds.

State jumped out to an early eight-point lead in the game’s first 10 minutes. The Tigers responded with a six-point run capped by two consecutive treys from Vincent Crutcher to pull within two points with 8:50 left in the half. The Bulldogs responded in a big way, finishing the half on a 23-5 run sparked by a Varnado pass resulting in a dunk from Augustus. MSU led 41-22 at the break.

The Tigers increased their pressure on the boards and slowly chipped away at the Bulldog lead. With 11:27 remaining, a layup from Kyle Saxton began an 11-1 stretch from Georgetown that put the Tigers down just 65-58. This was as close as they would get, however, as the Bulldogs then rattled off another big 24-5 run of their own. MSU held Georgetown without a basket for 4:39 of the game until a three from Saxton in the last second of the contest.

MSU drained 25 of its 31 free throw attempts (80.6 percent) and shot 56.6 percent from the field. The team also registered 7 steals, blocked 6 shots and handed out 17 assists.

“This team had Louisville down nine right before half,” MSU coach Rick Stansbury said. “It was two different games for us. At halftime I was very pleased. Our effort in the second half was not nearly as good. We have learned that you can’t play the score and can’t play the opponent.”

Next up for the Tigers is a trip to Tallahassee to face Florida State on Monday.  Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.  Listen to the action live by clicking on the "follow us live" link on www.georgetowncollegeathletics.com.

Former Tiger Guions Signs to Play Professionally in Japan (8/24/09)

Georgetown, Ky. — Former Georgetown College star Demetrius Guions has signed a contract to play professionally with the 89ers in Sendai, Japan.

The 6-5 guard from Radcliff, Ky. transferred to Georgetown from North Carolina  A & T with two years of eligibility remaining and was named an NAIA All-American each of his two years in the league.  In addition, Guions is a two-time Mid-South All-Conference player, appeared in two NAIA National Tournaments, making it to the Fab Four in 07-08, and was an integral part of the Tigers’ perfect 31-0 regular season, also in 07-08.

Guions finalized his agreement with the Sendai 89ers last week. The team is a part of the Japan-BJ League and last season went 31-21 and finished 3rd in their division.  Sendai was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Eastern Conference Tournament to end the year.

As a senior, Guions averaged 12.3 points per game and 4.8 rebounds.  He added 42 steals and 23 blocks for the Tigers, who finished the year 27-5.

Guions will report to Japan next week. He is the 39th Tiger coached by Happy Osborne to play professionally.

Tigers Finish the Season with First Round Loss in National Tournament (3/18/09)

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Georgetown College Tigers could not capitalize on opportunities in the second half and fell 72-61 to Central Methodist University in the opening round of the Buffalo Funds-NAIA Men's Basketball National Championship on Wednesday.

"I can't explain what happened," said head coach Happy Osborne.  "Bluntly, we were lousy."

The Eagles shot a blistering 65 percent from the field in the second half to eliminate the No. 4 seeded Tigers.

The Eagles and Tigers both shot the lights out in the second half, with CMU making 13 or its 20 field goal attempts and Georgetown draining 15 of 26 shots for 57.7 percent.  The difference proved to be the foul line where the Eagles made 16 free throws in the second half compared to the Tigers' three.  Central Methodist outscored the Georgetown 26-5 overall from the charity stripe.

Tied at 27 at the half, the game stayed close until an Eagle 12-4 run with eight minutes left to play.

CMU's Matt Sherman led all scorers with 22, including five 3-pointers.  Tiger senior Demetrius Guions led the Tigers with 21 in his final collegiate game.

The Eagles improved to 28-6 on the year while the Tigers finished their season at 27-5.

Georgetown's Jon Elrod Receives National Character Scholarship  (3/18/09)

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Georgetown College's Jon Elrod was honored as one of four NAIA student-athletes named Pattison Scholarship Award winners at the 2009 Buffalo Funds-NAIA Men's Basketball National Championship tip-off banquet on Tuesday night.

Elrod, a junior guard, holds a 3.98 cumulative grade point average as a pre-medicine major.  As part of the award, he was given a $2,000 scholarship.

Approximately 900 student-athletes, coaches, sponsors and fans attended the annual event on the eve of tournament play. Dr. Phil and Mary Pattison, longtime NAIA supporters and honorary coaches, awarded the scholarships at the event.

Each year the Pattison family recognizes select student-athletes at the tournament who excel both on and off the court. The recipients are chosen from a field of 32 Champions of Character award nominees from each tournament team. Other scholarship recipients included Vedran Zivic (Mountain State University), Dakotah Richter (Azusa Pacific University) and Jared Stevenson (Louisiana State University-Shreveport).

“We became involved with Champions of Character because we believed in supporting the recognition of young men who truly are making a difference in their schools, homes and communities. After many years of meeting and honoring these individuals we continue to be humbled by the degree of servant leadership these men exhibit,” said Dr. Phil and Mary Pattison. “We are honored to be a part of this program as we believe it is an important step in positively changing the culture of our society through athletics.”

Georgetown Drops Conference Title Game to Cumberlands (3/8/09)

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- The University of the Cumberlands hit a shot with 1.4 seconds left to beat Georgetown 60-57 in the Mid-South Conference Championship game on Sunday.

With 13.9 seconds left in the game and the Patriots' ball, Cumberlands coach Don Butcher called a timeout to set up the play that would give Cumberlands its first win over Georgetown since January 2005.

Senior Josh Phillips got the assignment and hit the 3-pointer to put Cumberlands ahead when it counted.  It was his third 3-pointer of the day.

In the second half, Georgetown scored just one field goal in the first ten minutes of the period.  It proved to be a struggle for Cumberlands as well, with the Patriots shooting 28 percent in the same timeframe.

At 9:49 to go in the game it was all tied up at 40. With five minutes to go it was tied again, this time at 45, and after Luke Fitzgerald completed an old-fashioned three-point play, it knotted things  at 55 with two minutes to go.

Georgetown had two players in double figures in the first half, Vic Moses and Vincent Crutcher with 10 a piece.  Crutcher did not score in the second half, while Moses finished with a game-high 19.

Cumberlands finished the game shooting 44.4 percent from 3-point range and 36.7 overall compared to the Tigers' 48.8 percent from the field and 18.2 from behind the arc.

Fitzgerald, the MSC Player of the Year, led the Patriots (26-6) with 16 points.  Georgetown fell to 27-4  on the year.  Both teams will now await the NAIA National Championships brackets, to be released Wednesday afternoon.

Georgetown Advances to MSC Championship Matchup with Cumberlands (3/7/09)

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Top-seed Georgetown College will meet second-seeded University of the Cumberlands in the Mid-South Conference Tournament finals after a 77-53 win over Pikeville College on Saturday.

It is the fourth year in a row for the Tigers, who won the regular season title, to play in the tournament championship.  Georgetown has played in 11 of 12 title games in MSC history.

A slow beginning, when the Tigers scored just two points in the first six minutes, didn't factor, as Georgetown pushed a five point halftime lead to as much as 24 in the second half.

Georgetown's Vic Moses and Pikeville's Justin Hicks both scored ten in the first half. The Tigers' Demetrius Guions finished as the high scorer for both teams with 16, while Anthony Smith tallied the night's lone double-double for Pikeville with 14 points and ten rebounds.

Earlier in the night, Cumberlands advanced to the finals with a 75-56 over Lindsey Wilson.  In last week's NAIA coaches' poll, Georgetown was ranked fourth and Cumberlands held the No.12 spot.

Georgetown improved to 27-3 on the year while Pikeville fell to 19-12.

Men's Basketball Receives Honors (3/5/09)

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Georgetown College's David Graham, Demetrius Guions and Vic Moses were named First Team Mid-South Conference announced at the annual basketball banquet on Thursday night.

Teammate Jerry Turner received honorable mention honors.

University of the Cumberlands senior forward Luke Fitzgerald was named Player of the Year. Fitzgerald is one of 11 men named to the team that was voted on by the conference coaches. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players.
MSC Freshman of the Year Vic Moses and Commissioner Polio.

Other first team selection included Campbellsville University senior Zach Allender, Cumberlands senior Josh Phillips and junior Chad Byron, Lindsey Wilson College junior Eric McPherson, Pikeville College junior Joshua Samarco, St. Catharine College junior Arthur Lathum and West Virginia University Tech senior Sam Robertson.

Moses was named the MSC Freshman of the Year after leading the conference in field goal percentage (70.2) and finishing eighth in scoring (13.9). The Lexington, Ky., native finished the regular season fifth in the MSC with 6.3 rebounds per game.

Campbellsville’s Hristo Petkov is the Champions of Character recipient. Petkov earned the award -- as voted on by the conference athletics director -- for his civic and servant leadership within the campus and community.

Georgetown’s Happy Osborne and West Virginia Tech’s Bob Williams were selected by their peers as MSC Co-Coach of the Year.

Tigers Clinch MSC Regular Season Title with 79-46 Win over Lindsey Wilson (2/21/09)

Georgetown College clinched the Mid-South Conference regular season title with a 79-46 win over Lindsey Wilson College in Georgetown on Saturday.

The victory was a sweet revenge after the Blue Raiders' 77-75 overtime win on January 31 in Columbia.

The No. 3 Tigers led 38-21 at halftime and never looked back, stretching the lead to 38 with three minutes to go in the game.

Georgetown freshman Vic Moses led all scorers with 19, followed by teammate David Graham's 16.  Lindsey Wilson's Eric McPherson had the lone double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Next up for the Tigers, who are currently 25-3 and 9-2 in conference play, is senior night on Thursday, February 26 when Georgetown hosts St. Catharine.

In the first game of the day, the Lindsey Wilson women's team spoiled Georgetown's senior day with a 70-64 win.

The Blue Raiders led by 12 at the half but allowed the Tigers back in the game in the second half behind the three-point shooting of senior guards Makaine Huffer, who had three, and Ashley Bell, who added two, all the second half.

Lindsey Wilson's Viktoria Krell had a double-double in the first half and ended the game with 30 points and 17 rebounds.

The Tigers fell to 15-14 and 4-7 on the year and will also host St. Catharine on Thursday.  Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.

Guions Named Mid-South Conference Player of the Week (12/17/08)

Georgetown College senior guard Demetrius Guions is the Mid-South Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

The Radcliff, Ky., native, scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the Tigers' 78-62 win over No. 3-ranked Union (Tenn.) University last week.

Guions connected on 7-of-12 shots, including 3-of-4 beyond the three-point arc to help the No. 9-ranked Tigers win their only game of the week.

Guions leads the Tigers averaging 13.7 points per game. He is shooting 56.3 percent from the field and 52.4 percent from three-point range.

Georgetown is 10-1 on the season and the Tigers will enjoy a holiday break until December 30 when they will face the University of Virginia at Wise at home.  Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m.

No. 9 Georgetown Upsets No. 3 Union (12/9/08)

Georgetown College head coach Happy Osborne marked this date at the beginning of the season as a game that would tell him something about how his squad was "coming along."

He got his answer Tuesday night with a 78-62 home win over No. 3 Union University.

Union led most of first half and pulled out to a nine point lead almost halfway through the period. But Georgetown kept chipping away and a three-pointer by Matt Walls with 54 seconds left gave the Tigers the lead for good. Jerry Turner followed with a shot at the buzzer for a halftime score of 37-33.

Walls' defensive play was superb, grabbing three steals and a Tarzan-like blocked shot of Tacuma Alexander with 7:10 to go sent the Georgetown faithful roaring.

Georgetown's largest lead was 17 with six minutes to play when Kyle Saxton hit a three pointer in the corner to make it 65-48 and the Tigers never looked back.

Senior Demetrius Guions led the Tigers with 20 and grabbed seven rebounds followed by freshman Vic Moses with 10 points.

For the Bulldogs, Keith Tolliver was seven of nine from the field, including four of five from three-point land and finished with 20 points.

Georgetown improved to 10-1 on the year while Union dropped to 8-3.

Tigers Lose Exhibition Game to Kentucky Wesleyan 85-72 (10/30/08)

Owensboro, Ky. - Georgetown College dropped the first of three exhibition games with a 85-72 to Kentucky Wesleyan on Thursday night.

Both teams shot an identical 42.9 percent from the field on the night but the difference was from the free throw line and three-point range, where Kentucky Wesleyan was 6 of 19 while the Tigers hit 3 of 9.

"I thought we were soft, very, very soft ," said head coach Happy Osborne. "I think we have lived in last year's 35-1 and those guys are gone."

True freshman Vic Moses started and led Georgetown in scoring with 18 points.  Senior Demetrius Guions followed with 15 points and nine rebounds.

"Vic's stats look good but are nothing close to the potential that he has," said Osborne."He's a great talent with tremendous hands and a soft touch but has to be more physical."

The disappointed Osborne must regroup his team to take on a tough University of Louisville squad in just one day.  "We have to get tougher or get embarrassed."

Tipoff in Freedom Hall is scheduled for 1:30 pm on Saturday.

Georgetown to Face Louisville for Third Year in a Row (10/29/08)

Georgetown, Ky — It’s another David versus Goliath matchup when the Georgetown College Tigers suit up against the University of Louisville Cardinals on Saturday, November 1 at 1:30 p.m.

This is the third consecutive trip to Freedom Hall for the Tigers, where they nearly pulled off a shocking upset just two seasons ago in a 94-92 loss to the Cardinals.  Last year’s game featured a solid first half effort from the Tigers before the Cardinals found their stride in the second half and the Tigers were unable to maintain the pace and depth of Louisville’s squad.  The loss did not appear to phase the Tigers, as they then went on to have an undefeated regular season which culminated in an appearance in the NAIA’s Fab Four and finished 35-1 on the year.

This year Coach Happy Osborne has his Tigers ready to go again and they will definitely be looking to give Pitino’s Cards all they have.  “Louisville is very, very good,” said Georgetown head coach Happy Osborne. “They are big and physical and could be the best team Pitino has coached.”  Despite Louisville’s credentials, Osborne noted the tenacity of this Georgetown team.  “We will give it our best shot; we’ll give them all we’ve got.”

Tipoff for the game is set for 1:30 P.M on Saturday.  Tickets are still available at Georgetown College’s campus bookstore for $30 each as part of the visiting team allotment.  You can phone your order to 502-863-8134, charge to your credit card and pick tickets up at Freedom Hall will-call. All other tickets are sold out.

If you are unable to make it to Louisville be sure to tune into 93.7 WRVG for the Georgetown College Student Radio broadcast or listen to the streaming audio at http://wrvg.georgetowncollege.edu.  The game will also air live on ABC-affiliate WHAS-TV in Louisville.
